Success in reading involves a “key” factor

A unique concept in motivating readers to elevate their game

Statistics have shown that success in learning to read is a key to success in academics. That is why, in 2020, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast (BGCS) partnered with SkyLearn to bring in the Let’s Go Learn (LGL) reading program: to provide an out-of-school learning experience that will help their young participants throughout their lives. This program includes online assessments, reading lessons, automated progress monitoring… and bronze, silver and gold reward keys. This motivational tool has become a “gold” standard for reading programs supported by SkyLearn.

Why our Boys & Girls Clubs believe in the power of Let’s Go Learn and SkyLearn.

Julie Christman
Director of Literacy Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast (FL)

“ELA Edge is intrinsically motivating with its bronze, silver & gold mastery levels. We say ‘Do one lock a day and go for the gold!’ ”

“A powerhouse as a data management tool – there is more data offered than we can use – from customizable rankings to pre-post gains, weighted scores and more. My data analyst loves it and has used the data to create wonderful graphs for our
funders.”

“The lesson path (or game path, as we call it) is visually motivating for kids. We named our program Unlock Reading based on the locks.”

“The DORA provides granular real-time data to inform our instruction. We like that it saves as kids work on it. Also glad comprehension can be redone.”

“The reports are helpful, for data chats with kids to celebrate growth, to share with families, and to share with teachers.”

“Julie has transformed our clubs with the Unlock Reading program in the clubs to include a dedicated literacy coach. The program provides literacy games for kids, short literacy games online, and time for kids to read books and listen to books being read. She has been a champion for supporting literacy of kids across Pinellas County, including many students and families who need the support desperately. She has worked tirelessly to get the human and tangible resources in place for kids to be successful. This program provides fun, engaging ways for kids (K-12) to work on their literacy skills outside of school. We have seen measured success with the students we serve supporting their growth that will help them throughout their lifetimes.”
